Cataracts are a very common cause of visual difficulties in people aged 60 onwards, according to Dr Farokh Irani of Eye Surgeons Bendigo.

Symptoms include difficulty seeing fine print, reading street signs or subtitles on television.

"In addition, there can be issues with glare, especially driving at night," Dr Irani said.

"Other symptoms include washed out colours, and diminished brightness."

Eye Surgeons Bendigo specialise in cataract surgery having helped develop a no stress, painless system. It is a half-day procedure with no overnight stay, making it safe and effective. The surgery is done under a local anesthetic with no needles around the eye.

A very small incision is made and the cataract is emulsified and aspirated out.

A new artificial lens is then placed inside the eye.

No stitches are needed and the whole procedure takes less than 20 minutes.

"The results are amazing, with most people noticing a huge difference by the following day, if not immediately," Dr Irani said.

"Often, the need for glasses is reduced and even then, the spectacle lenses are much thinner and astigmatism can be eliminated. "Sometimes, no glasses are required at all.

"Eye Surgeons Bendigo has modern, state-of-the-art equipment to achieve the best outcome. A full range of the latest lens implants are available. They also offer laser cataract surgery.

"We have treated many thousands of people including artists, politicians and celebrities who have placed their trust in us," Dr Irani said.
